Circle Connection

Integrative Mental Health Care

Mission & Vision

Circle Connection offers person-centered psychotherapy for individuals and promotes mental wellness for

underrepresented communities in the Richmond area. We stand for health equity, ethical and trauma-informed care and believe that we can find healing through meaningful connection.

Circle Connection was created to offer a solution to the mental turmoil experienced from

the COVID-19 pandemic. We saw an opportunity, in what felt like an impossible situation, to bring people together from across the globe to support one another. As medical trauma, unethical medical care, and negligence impacted many lives, we noted the increased development of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction.

Circle Connection is committed to contributing research, advocating for ethical patient

care through speaking and training events, and offering free or no cost treatment for patients with

Sickle Cell Disease.

Our vision is that Circle Connection will be a safe haven for people feeling mistreated by

the medical system – a place where they can seek understanding, advocacy and healing. We aim to be at the forefront of the medical paradigm shift that will help shape the way we provide medical care in the future.

Dan arnold, msw

I am a license eligible social worker who graduated from VCU in 1998 with a Masters in Social Work in the clinical program. I have experience working with clients with many different issues and I have worked in a variety of settings from state and federal agencies, prisons, and private agencies. Being a military veteran and retired federal law enforcement officer, I feel I have a good understanding of veterans and first responders’ issues. My life path has been a voyage of discovery and I look forward to helping others find their own path in this world. I strive to create a non-judgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I appreciate the complexity and uniqueness of everyone and believe that each individual is the expert of their own thoughts, feelings, experiences, and problems. I utilize a humanistic and collaborative approach to support individuals with overcoming barriers that come between them and the life they want to live.

No Surprises Act Overview

The No Surprises Act, which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, is designed to protect clients from receiving unexpected medical bills. The Good Faith Estimate provision of the No Surprises Act is designed to give clients an estimate of how much they’ll be charged for the healthcare services they’ll be receiving, prior to their appointment.

The No Surprises Act contained in Division BB of the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) of 2021 took a federal approach to the problem of surprise medical billing. Most parts of the act went into effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

The main provisions of the No Surprises Act include:

  • Protect patients from surprise medical bills due to gaps in coverage for services provided for emergencies and by out-of-network providers at in-network facilities, including by air ambulances.
  • Hold patients liable only for their in-network cost-sharing amount but give providers and insurers the opportunity to negotiate reimbursement.
  • Allow providers and insurers to access an independent dispute resolution process in the event disputes arise around reimbursement.
  • Require providers and health plans to help patients access health care cost information.

Requirements for providers

As of January 1, 2022, this legislation applies to all healthcare providers and facilities operating under the scope of a state-issued license or certification. Providers are required to share a specific consent document in addition to a Good Faith Billing Estimate, prior to beginning care.

State-licensed or certified healthcare providers are required to provide a Good Faith Estimate of charges to every new and continuing client who’s either uninsured or isn’t planning to submit a claim to their insurance for the services they’re seeking.
